American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana)
The avocet reminds me a bit of a black-necked stilt with their long legs, but it is their amazing bills that makes them so unique (at least for me!) and sets them apart. This was one of the first frames I was able to capture of him - he kept moving to the right and I lost the blue background of the lake as he moved. This was taken at the Monte Vista NWR in south central Colorado. This refuge is known as a stop over for migrating sandhill cranes.
