Bendigo - Goldmine

These days we use a method called meshing and bolting to stabilize and support the ground, this helps to hold the rock in place and stop it from relaxing (falling). In a nutshell meshing and bolting involves strategically drilling holes into areas that require ground support using a rock drill/airleg to insert the appropriate bolt. In essence this ‘staples’ the rock all together. The mesh is installed in areas where there is any chance a small piece of scat (rock) might fall from the backs (roof) of a drive or crosscut and it is held in place using the same rock bolts.
