It's recommended that you don't photograph stars when the moon is full, but it can actually help you get better detail in the foreground even if the sky isn't as dark as you'd like. I guess it depends on what you want to emphasise in the image. In this image, the night sky was secondary and the snow-covered nature was what I wanted to show.
