Taconite Harbor, Minnesota
A dozen years ago there was a miraculous return to service for the Erie Mining F9s in Minnesota. At this point in time it was known as the Cliffs Erie Railroad and the taconite fines/chips were being backhauled from the Harbor to Hoyt Lakes, MN in the old side-dumps that used to haul raw taconite to the pellet plant before it was shuttered. For a few months the railfans were treated to covered wagons working freight on their home rails. Special thanks to Doug Buell and others on the OreRail YahooGroup for keeping everyone informed on when the F units would be running.
