Miss Molly

First LO of our new kitty, Molly. Journaling is under the two 4x6" photos: 'We got Molly at the MontCo SPCA the week before Gary's Easter Break from Martin Luther School. When we went into the cat room, she was the only kitty to respond to us with any enthusiasm. Right away, she began 'talking' to us, and stuck her paw out of the cage to

reach for us.

When they took her out of the cage for us we were struck by how BIG she is. (13 lbs, 7 oz by the scale at PetSmart!) We have never had a kitty this big; Butch was an average size tom, and Amelia was quite petite. But when Molly immediately started rubbing up against us,asking for some love, we knew we'd found our new fur-friend.

They told us Molly had been adopted once, but had fought with another cat in that family and had to be returned to the shelter. Since she was going to be an 'only cat'with us, we knew that wasn't going to be a problem at our house.

When we brought Molly home, she marked everything she could by rubbing her cheeks on things. She was surprised the first time she jumped on the waterbed, but joined us there the very first night. She almost demanded attention, with her loud Mrrrrr-ow! and a head butt if necessary, and monopolized laps for the first few days. She has been exploring every nook and cranny of the apartment.

The only tough spot we had was getting her to eat. She didn't like the food we'd bought, and let us know in no uncertain terms. The staff at the SPCA didn't know what she was used to, either. So we did some trial and error and settled on canned food with gravy in it, and dry Frisky's, mixed together. This seems to meet with her approval.

Now she sits on window sills and watches the birds, or lays on the back of the couch while Gary watches t.v. We will show her the kitty door in a little while, but for now she must be an indoor cat. - April 2014'
