Butte Beer ghost signs - Butte, Montana (9/23/2014)
I came across two great beer ghost signs during a recant vacation in Montana. In Butte I felt like I was in ghost sign heaven!
The Butte Brewing Company, makers of Butte Beer and Butte Special Beer, was founded in 1885 by German immigrant Henry Muntzer. Within 12 years, he had grown his brewery from a five-barrel-a-day operation to a 50 barrel-a-day plant. T.J. Nerny and John Harrington succeeded Muntzer as owners in the early 1900s. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the Butte Brewery was the only local brewery to reopen.
Butte is now on the verge of having the Butte Brewing Company return to operation and with it the brands of Butte Beer and Butte Special Beer.
