11 may.

I think one of my favorite parts of mother's day is lying in bed in the morning and listening to all the getting-ready sounds. the clink of breakfast dishes, the stage-whispered discussion of surprises. Elliott came in and out of my "sleeping in" time at least three times, with updates and caveats and snuggles.

also today, we debated the best placement for the new flowers, looked at drawings, tasted chocolate, saw a movie (The Secret World of Arrietty at AFI Silver, the boys' first time), ate scrambled eggs for lunch, read board books, napped, called my mom, called my sister, ate asparagus from the garden, and had time for all the steps of bedtime. all my kids and husbands were home and not in a hospital or on a trip, and things were mostly as perfect as they could be.
