Okinawa, Japan (April 15, 2005)--Aviation Machinist Mates assigned to the "Fighting Tigers" of Patrol Squadron EIGHT (VP-8) work together to lower an auxiliary power unit (APU) of a P-3C Orion. The APU is a relatively small self-contained generator used to start the main engines with compressed air, and to provide electrical power and air-conditioning while on the ground. The APU can be operated in flight for electrical power use, but bleed air is not available. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 3rd Class Shannon R. Smith.
