Cross traffic at CP-Dale
With a little of the white stuff showing on the ground following the latest snow, Louisville & Indiana Railroad train Z550 hammers the diamond at CP-Dale on the south side of Indianapolis, Indiana, on CSX's former JM&I/PRR/PC/CR Louisville Secondary. CSX still owns and operates the northern four miles or so of the Louisville route with the remainder being the Louisville & Indiana (LIRC). Z550 was headed to Indiana Railroad's Senate Avenue Yard for interchange. CP-Dale is the location of the former Dale Block Station which controlled the diamond with the old Indianapolis Union Rwy. here, and in its later life, it verbally controlled the northerly two Block Limit Stations (BLS's) of Elvin and White on the Louisville Secondary.
LIRC SD40-2 3001 started out life as UP 3554, and was built by EMD for Union Pacific in March of 1979. 3001 is one of two of LIRC's Veterans units.
