Elseworlds Immortal Iron Fist 2.5
Volume 2 – Issue 5 Hostile Takeover
Sprinting down the streets of New York was not uncommon for Dani these days, but in a business suit? No that was very uncommon for her. She made it to the entrance of Rand Industries just in time and jumped in a crowded elevator, full of men and women who all stared at her in amazement. Obviously they were just as surprised that she was in the building than Dani was. She rode the elevator for almost five minutes as it repeatedly stopped at almost every floor letting people in and out. Everyone gave her the same look and some even tried to make conversation with her. Dani felt extremely uncomfortable here, she preferred open surroundings, not cramped, and sweaty ones like this. The doors finally ping open onto floor 48 where Dani manages to wriggle her way through the still crowded elevator and out onto the main floor. A receptionist stopped her before realizing who she was. “This way miss Rand, Richard and the board are about to start.” She shows Dani down a hallway. This floor of the office reminded Dani of one of her favourite TV shows about lawyers, except with less drama. Finally they arrived at the conference room and the receptionist opened the door for Dani and she walked in.
“Ah Dani, so glad you could make it, we were just about to start.” Richard Wolffe welcomes me in and pulls up a seat next to him. I’m glad he does, he’s the only familiar face in the room, and the only face that has a smile on it at that. I take a seat and he begins the meeting. “I have called this meeting as Danielle Rand, the daughter of Alexander Rand, founder of this company, has almost reached the rightful age to inherit her fathers legacy as stated in his final testimony. We are here to vote on whether we, as the board of Rand Industries think this is right for the company. In Alexander’s absence Mr Williams has done a fantastic job of standing in, and even expanding our research into Ionic Particles.” A man in a suit stands up from the opposite side of the table. He’s a tall man with a wavy, dark brown-slicked back hair and bright blue eyes. “Kind words Richard. As many of you know, the past few years have been a struggle, especially finding our feet after our loss, but I think we have now found a new path forward, a brighter path. And with your support we can continue down this path together.” The board members clap and then look towards Dani. “Dani, any words?” Richard asks. “Ummm, well, hi, my name is Dani…ummm” I think the board members all wanted to laugh. I’d made a fool out of myself. “Dani…” Richard whispers to me, “just speak your mind, let them in and make them trust you.” He turns back to the table. “Anything else Dani” Mr Williams says from the end of the table. He looked like the most likely to burst out laughing. “Yeah, yes I mean. I just want to say a little something else if you don’t mind. My father was a good man, and he treated this business like another one of his children. He gave this to me and he had every right to, as he knew that I was the only one likely to treat it the way he did, because I’m a Rand and he left this company for me. I know I may not be the most qualified candidate, but I promise you that I will treat every single one of you just as my father did. I’ll treat you like a family.” A few claps echo through the conference room, not nearly as many as Mr. Williams got. “Umm thank you Dani that was…good I guess yeah, a little dramatic but….well yeah I think we should vote.” Richard says “All in favor for Simon retaining his place as CEO of Rand Industries.” Hands fly up, “and all in favor of fulfilling Alexander’s last wish and letting his daughter Dani take the helm of this company.” Hands again fly up, more than she expected, Richard began counting them before finally standing up to address the board again. “Thank you for coming ladies and gentlemen, I know you’ve all got more important things to do, but please give a warm welcome to our new CEO miss Danielle Rand…”
