rest in peace
Granny crossed over yesterday, passed away, died. This was the last we saw each other, in our hometown Pittsburgh, May of this year, just before her 102nd birthday.
I spoke with her about once every 2 or 3 weeks though and our last conversation was as usual, with some mutual consternation about our health and the weather, some shared good humor about the trials and tribulations of our lives, and always laughter and much love.
She was a tough one to know, y'know? Born into our historical familial hardships in 1917, she was of a generation that didn't "share", talk, reference the past but for names, dates, events.
But she took me in for my first few years as an infant - even as she had just borne her own last child 11 months before - and told me often over the years that I was like a youngest of her own. That early bond of care and safety created an affection that remained true and strong, in spite of years out of each other's orbits, to the end.
I will miss her dearly, my Granny love, always, forever.
