granny
at 92 granny has lived alone - and on her own - for about 30 years (after the deaths of 2 husbands - 1 who worked at the homestead mills, the other at heppenstall's).
just spent a few days with her. friday night we watched the show where you guess the lyrics; i sang, and she laughed a lot. then we watched one of her favorite shows, "how it's made", and mused on what a complicated/complex world we live in compared to her early childhood, and about how so many things in the world are taken for granted.
she says she refuses to admit to being "old", so, for a person of more greatly aged status? she is the easiest person i know to be in the company of. i think i figured out it's because she does not reminisce, and she does not future-trip. as far as i can tell, she lives in the present moment. whatever is at hand, she rolls with it ... and that rocks.
my mum was her first daughter, i was mum's first daughter/child, and i was gran's first grandchild. (5 children, 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grand, 5 great-great-grand.)
looking at this photo i see some of what mum might've looked like if she had made it past 57 to be here with us today. 3 tough old broads we'd be.
