functional rain

In this photograph you can see the water running down the side of the caliche-covered county road and how the rain functions as an assist to those of us who like to collect on those roads. When the road grading machine took out the ruts from previous traffic and leveled off the road, it shoved some of the rock and sand and other material to one side and left a raised area that eventually gets thinned and flattened by the heavy rains, whenever they happen. The effect of that is to leave the larger rocks on the surface and easier (and cleaner) to recognize.
