Found this in an antique store today. The guy who owned it was a picker and had an entire footlocker full of a pilot's belongings from the war. He let me look through the locker, and I ended up finding this incredible piece of artwork. Probably intended as a birthday joke to this pilot, it shows his unit's insignia. The 517th Airlift Squadron was activated in 1940 and participated in several major operations in WWII, most notably for me dropping American paratroopers onto the isle of Sicily in July of '43.

 

Ended up on getting this for 25 bucks. Not a bad price indeed.
