Throwing Heat...
1950's 300mm f5.6 Novoflex in a follow focus housing...
I haven't used this lens much, so i'm glad it preformed well enough to let me post a shot.
The Novoflex uses a pistol grip that you squeeze to focus the lens. This is called a follow-focus system and you could attach separate lenses for different focal lengths. I only have the one 300mm 5.6 Novaflexar lens head for mine.
The trick is getting comfortable with the squeeze focusing so it becomes second nature. I am sure if I used it enough I would be able to keep things in focus wherever I pointed it, however I have not reached this level of hand eye coordination yet, nor am I likely to use it enough to do so.
If used for more than a couple of innings your hand gets a little sore. Again something that is probably overcome with a little use.
I only shot the Novoflex wide open @ f5.6 as wider is better for sports shots. It produced nice sharp images. The vignetting is added in my post production workflow. I did find that my focus was off just a bit in a lot of shots, my fault not the lens!
A little bit of green CA can be found in some shots of the chainlink (though this one seems to have a hint of purple...) and a little halo in the bright white of the hat logo, but nothing obvious unless you look at 100%...
The lens is nice and light and the grip helps balance things nicely. It is a little conspicuous with a pistol grip, and I always get looks and some questions about it when I am using it.
Mine comes in L39 or Leica screw-mount so I have to have an adapter to get to fit on the Canon 5D.
