Playing with Canon's 400mm f2.8 IS II Lens!
The shallow DOF really makes the subjects just pop out! and 2.8 is great for capturing dust and dirt flying against a super blurred background...
The colors and contrast on this lens are amazing! They are visibly better than my 70-200 f4 which is an amazing lens in its own right... The shots look so good straight out of the camera that post processing is not really required.
I still processed these with my "sports" action I created in Nik color efex a photoshop plugin program I really like and highly recommend. I think they look slightly better post processed but like I said they are just amazing out of the camera...
One odd note about this lens is how it captures the occasional dust particle like the one above the spectator. If caught just right and lit up it turns it into a large puff ball... In some shots it even refocused and magnified the out of focus background inside the "puff ball" and I could clearly see a couple of links of chain link from a fence that was many yards away from the in focus area of the shot...
