Doctor Who: Reflections

Reflections

As the Doctor walked through the dark corridor he breathed calmly, heading towards the faint glow.

'This is certainly unusual, even for you old girl' he said, placing a hand on the wall and stroking it softly.

He stopped for a moment, the darkened walls were smooth and cold, no roundels or familiar detailing he had noticed in previous desktop themes.

'She's redecorating herself' He mused 'This must be a default mode'.

As he reached the end of the corridor, the glowing dissipated. Leaving the Doctor in an all too familiar room.

A small console was at the center, on top of a round, metallic platform. White roundels were on every wall, with large coral pillars supporting and encompassing the room. Cables snaked overhead and around the pillars, all leading to the cobbled together console in the center.

'It's his console room, the one who fought in the Time War' The Doctor mused.

Moving over to the console, he placed a hand on one of the coral segments, flicking a small switch.

There was no response.

As he tried another switch, a gravelly, jaded voice filled his head.

'What I did, I did without choice. In the name of peace and sanity'.

'But you didn't do it? Did you?' The Doctor called out. 'Gallifrey still exists, so do the Daleks!'.

A wave of anxiety hit the Doctor, thousands of metallic, grating voices filled his mind. And then an all too familiar scream pierced through and curdled his blood.

'Daniel' he gasped.

He placed both hands on the console, trying to steady himself. His body shook and trembled at the mention of his name.

He breathed deeply, as he did another voice entered his mind.

'I don't suppose there's any need for a Doctor anymore. Make me a warrior now'

The Doctor blinked, lifting his head up.

'What if it's that time again?' He thought 'Is this truly the only way?'

As he stepped away from the console, another door slid open. Revealing another dark corridor.

The Doctor turned to look at the time column.

'You're trying to tell me something, aren't you?' He said.

There was no response from the Tardis, just the faint hum of machinery in the distance.

Slowly the Doctor stepped away from the light of the room, and into darkness once more.
