Bonnie ...

This lovely lady does not appear often and spends most of her time quietly, watching and looking for gentle interaction. Though the vet says she is doing well for her age, she is now 12 years old; she does have a few problems, which we are keeping an eye on. She was adopted into our family during the pandemic lockdown, as her owner sadly became unwell. I'll keep you posted, but hopefully she will shake off whatever ails her.

Many have asked me about Marc, and I genuinely appreciate your interest and concern. A consultant told us that epilepsy does not get worse. How can that be? I asked, and gave evidence of how Marc's struggle with his seizures has increased markedly over the last few years. I did not get an answer.

A typical day for Marc starts in the middle of the night when a seizure wakes him. We rush to his aid as suffocation is a big concern at night. Within an hour or two of getting up, he will often suffer a tonic-clonic seizure. Of late, these can be two or three in relatively quick succession. Horrible and frightening to watch, and comfort him through, but the pain Marc suffers himself is clear to see on his face. The day often sees him subject to multiple generalised-onset seizures. Migraine-type headaches always accompany these, and his days are spent either in pain or recovering.

Often, he will end the day with gelastic seizures, which are particularly disturbing to witness. And then, the cycle starts again.

We have an appointment with his neurologist next month and are looking for feedback on his EEG from last year (yes, it's taken that long). We understand and accept that Marc has drug-resistant epilepsy. Unless new medication is revealed that can be tried, we also accept that there is nothing that can be done to help him, other than continue to support him as we do and love him, no matter what.

My time here has been erratic, and I am sorry for that. I will try to do better, and as the better weather is approaching, there is much to do in the garden to make changes to meet Marc's present needs, abilities and interests. I hope to picture him working with me as we create it together, and of course, encourage him to take some pictures himself.

thank you all for your continued patience and support. Have a lovely weekend :-))
