"The three friends" tomb - Recoleta Cemetery - Buenos Aires
This cemetery (and many others around the world) is full of anecdotes. It is said that three friends of the late-XIX. Century- Buenos Aires high society, Benigno Baldomero Lugones , Adolfo Mitre and Alberto Navarro Viola, because of the succesfull end of their studies at High School, their fathers bestowed them with a trip to Europe in 1884. Always according to the legend, in Paris they bet to enter separately into a cemetery at 12.00 of midnight. They had to come out 30 minutes later. Two of them did so, but the third one didn' t. In the morning he was found dead with a branch catching his clothes. It is supossed that he died by fear. But the strange of the case is that the other two, back in Buenos Aires... died in the same year of different natural causes!! Excepting for the Paris experience, its true that the three died in his tewnties within 4 or 5 months.
