The Esplanade near Petone, Lower Hutt
I nearly forgot to mention; after we recovered my phone, and before heading to the motel, we also made a quick stop at Petone to buy some toothsome snacks from the South African store, and drove along the eastern shore of Wellington harbour, to Eastbourne, before turning back for a much needed rest.
Obviously, with all that had happened, we missed out on seeing the rest of the attractions at the Botanical Gardens, and will return one day soon to complete the tour (including visiting the Begonia House, waterfall, theme gardens and the Cable Car that takes one to downtown Wellington).
