Well, it will be no surprise to disclose that this is a composited image. At least, it is not one of those automated simply push a button app and presto...done for you. I created two copies of the same image. I desaturated one leaving only outlines which I darkened. Then, I placed the a processed color image below it and using a mask, I brought out color where I wanted it. I did add a light yellow gradient flowing from top right to left bottom corner....sort of mimicking a warm yellow sun light. Anyway, it does add a warm wash that blends the background together pleasingly to me. I have tried PS filters to create something similar, but was not as satisfied with the result.
