Hi everyone,
I've been trying to work more Becky time back into my life, but that isn't always easy, as I'm sure most of us have known at some point or another.
I got out twice in June and that doubled the number of times I had been out this whole year. The last time I was able to get out twice in one month was way back in 2018.
My hope is that this is a positive trend and not just an outlier, as I was much happier and more fulfilled with Becky's life back then. In fact, while I did some interesting things in 2019, 2018 was the last year I would say Becky was really living her full life, if that make any sense.
2020 was supposed to be a return, but we all know how that turned out.
Anyways, these are from my time at the Trans March in San Francisco last Friday. The crowd in Dolores Park before the march, me on BART heading into the city and a selfie while there. It was windy at times but pretty warm too and I had to walk a bit even before the march, so I wasn't really in picture mood.
I met a couple of my newer friends there and hung around with them for a bit. Did the march and then we all went to dinner.
Before I knew it, it was coming up on 10 and I needed to catch BART back.
I caught one of the last trains home. Had a little unfortunate episode with a racist and somewhat threatening passenger. For some reason, he had it in his mind that I was Russian and why was I here and I should go back.
I was really just trying to ignore him. Had he been much more threatening, I would have taken a much more aggressive and defensive stance. It was easily the worst and most threatening time I've ever had while out.
I am fine and figured I still had options to defuse/avoid anything. At the next station, I quickly got off the train and then got back on a couple of cars down. It was late and there was only one other person in the car, but I didn't see him again.
I'm sure there were lots of factors, and only one of them was I'm TG. The unleashing of "its OK to be violently threaten in public" by Trump and his minions has been quite noticeable, even here in the relatively progressive Bay Area. The increase of threatening and racist/xenophobic type passengers has been unfortunate.
A couple of years back, I went and sat next to a Muslin women on a train, when some asshole was being verbally abusive to her. A big black guy sitting across from me noticed. He was a veteran and eventually told the guy to" Just shut the blank up".
I didn't know her or that guy, but I was thankful for those kinds of Americans in my country.
Being a white male, I get the privilege of not being subject to that kind of thing all the time, but I also wear the shoes of others in our culture from time to time, and I totally get and can appreciate aspects of the world they live in.
With the recent extreme stacking of the Supreme Court it is not looking good on the legal front either.
I can only imagine how different the world would be if Trump had never been elected. The three justices Trump appointed would not be in place, replaced by three much more moderate justices. That alone would have made a huge difference in the coming years.
I hope you all have a nice Holiday Weekend and I hope we will all take a moment to reflect a little on the true meaning of democracy and our freedoms.
Hugs, Becky
