Supporting the Ukrainians, but against the human cost of war

I got out a few days ago and on my way to my local TG social gathering, I stopped by this informal, somewhat make-shift War Memorial. It was started by concerned citizens in the Bay Area, after the US invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq in the early 2000s. It has now added the war in Ukraine.

Everyone sees and appreciates War Memorials differently and personally.

This one always evokes aspects of the chaos and randomness of destruction in war, to me. A reminder that things in war are not clean and organized, but messy and chaotic.

That war is not bleached white and almost sterile looking rows of white crosses and other head stones, but chaotic bodies and destruction strewn around the ground. It is never sterile, never organized and never pretty.

I fully support and applaud the efforts of the brave Ukrainians to defend their country and our own efforts and those of our allies to help them with that defense. We need to stand together to stop this destruction.

I hope that an outcome of this war might be, that future bullies and tyrants will think twice before heading off into ill conceived conflict.

That freedom loving people will all recognize, that we are in this together and should stand together as such.

And I hope that soon Russia will find its ability to bring destruction to its neighbor limited or ended. They can not keep up with the level of causalities they too are taking and that then this war will end.

Unfortunately that will mean lots more death and destruction in Ukraine, before we get there.

As for my time here, things are still unfortunately crazy, COVID is on the rise again, although here in here Bay Area, that rise and impact seem to be reduced because of the high vaccination rate, over 90% of adults in my county and over 85% of all folks.

Our hospitalizations and deaths are up, but just slightly.

I had hoped to make an outing with a long time friend of mine, but they weren't feeling well. I cancelled my "dressed" outing, but went to our evening social anyways.

I said, "I didn't notice the difference, because they were still all dressed."

It was nice to see them all again and I met a new gal, who recently joined our group. She indicated she was looking for reasons to get out and about, and I'm always willing to help others find an excuse to get out, so hopefully I'll get out again soon, too.

Rescheduling our trip to SF MOMA, getting my hair done and the San Francisco Trans and Pride Days are all coming up in June, so I should have plenty of excuses.

Be well, stay safe and try to enjoy things, even in this still total insane world.
