Holiday Party Dress
Hi all,
I hope you all had a nice and safe Thanksgiving Holiday. I’ve been busy/distracted by a number of other things recently, so this is finally the dress I wore to a recent Holiday Party. We were able to squeeze the party in between COVID surges here. Not as big as earlier pre COVID holiday parties, but it was nice to see a number of folks I hadn’t seen much of for the last couple of years.
I had assumed earlier this year, that after vaccinations got going, we’d be back out doing our thing, like in pre pandemic times by now, but 2021 hasn’t been as I had hoped.
Vaccinations stalled in many parts of the country, Delta hit and now maybe Omicron is coming too.
We have been doing Ok here as compared to much of the rest of the US, but even here the Delta variant hit hard. Back in late June, when I went on a short vacation, we had gotten down to just 20 new cases per day here, 60 days later, after the Delta variant hit, we were back up to over 400 new cases per day. We are back down to between 160 and 180 new cases daily, but we haven’t been able to drop below that and a new winter surge seems to be growing again, at least in other parts of the country (and the world).
In my county, we have had good vaccination up take, over 90% of adults are now fully vaccinated, about a 1/3 have gotten booster shots and the expectation is that kids will eventually get up to a similar level, but that still means we have several hundred thousand folks who remain unvaccinated. They represent most of our local current cases, but they are only 10% of the population. People are 10 times more likely to get it here if you are unvaccinated and even more likely to end up in the hospital or die. But with several hundred thousand folks that could still be vaccinated, that is a lot of souls to keep this insane pandemic going, even here.
I got boosted last week, so I feel pretty good about making it thru the coming winter surge, but I fear it is not going to be a nice winter for many. Last year the US death rate was nearly 100,000 people a month, in the middle of the winter. With Delta, now Omicron and so many people still unvaccinated it could be easily be as bad or even worse this winter.
I’m hoping I might be able to squeeze one last outing in this year, but we shall see. The stars will need to align just right to make that happen.
Either way, I hope you are all well and getting by, regardless of how you find things in your area.
Be well and my best holiday wishes to you all.
Hugs, Becky
