Remembering 9/11/2001
This was from a visit to a local 9/11 memorial a few years back. It is one of several pieces of twisted steel I beams from the structure of the World Trade Center in NYC.
It is important that we remember and reflect on the significant events of our past, but also that we put them in some context as well.
I mourn for the roughly 3000 souls who were lost that day and for their families and friends. It was a truly horrible day and one that has had a huge impact on my life and journey in the last 20 years.
But I also think it is important to put events in some context, to understand and reflect on their meaning.
More Americans will die this weekend due to COVID19, than died on that day, twenty years ago and that horrible death rate has been with us for weeks now and will likely remain with us for weeks to come.
In less than 10 days more American will die of COVID19, than all the Americans who were killed in the last 20 years during the War on Terrorism.
Take a moment to let that sink in.
We have had all the tools necessary to defeat this enemy for at least the last few months, and yet we have nearly a quarter of Americans, who are unwilling to help stop or even worse, aiding the spread of this enemy daily.
We have elected officials in a number of states who are actively fighting against our otherwise national efforts to end this fight against COVID19. Members of Congress from one party are actively undermining efforts to enact measures, which we know, are effective against this enemy in our schools and works places.
There was a time when we didn’t have much in our arsenal to fight with, but we are way past that time.
Virtually all the deaths in the last few months have been needless and self-infected by those working to upset our national response.
These people are “terrorists” and are killing many more people, each day, than Osama Bin Laden ever did.
And it is happening right now and it has to stop.
While I grieve for the thousands who were lost on 9/11/2001, we must get our focus back on the problem and the threat as it exists today…right now.
Even a week longer will be too long.
Please be well, stay safe and take a moment to remember all those lost…both 20 years ago and in the last 20 months.
Hugs, Becky
