Oh, I did forget to mention …
I also stopped by my beauty salon and got my hair cut. Just me and my stylist then, but COVID19 is still limiting things here and that was fine.
It was the first time I had gotten to dress up for my visit in nearly 2 years.
That lead to a lot of catching up on Becky things as my stylist handles me as I present when I visit.
It was quite nice, as it usually is. At one point she mentioned that I reminded her a lot of Bea Arthur from Maude and The Golden Girls. While in general we are all hoping to be compared to Jennifer Anniston or Jennifer Garner or some other younger and still quite sexy women, I totally got what she was saying and was quite honored in the comparison.
Bea Arthur was an icon to many women in the manner in which she became a celebrity activist for women rights, in the 70s and 80s and then also an advocate for the LGBTQ community later.
I’m a tall woman in her eyes and have a deeper voice than most women and am now roughly her age when she was a star on the Golden Girls.
So, while I’d love to be in my 20s or 30s again, I’m not and since my goal is to present and be accepted as a nice, friendly and caring woman of my age, she is a great role model and certainly one who I can never match in class, comedic timing, and beauty, so I’ll enjoy that comparison thru my rose-colored sunglasses.
Getting to the news of the day, while I had hoped Afghanistan would not collapse like it has, I’ve recognized for years that it was likely going to be a house of cards when we left, even Iraq with a longer history of united governance has been a teetering country for years and without our re-entry to bash Isis, it too would have likely collapsed as well.
But I’m please we are doing what we can to get people out who we need to get out. I know it won’t be everyone, but we are now at over 70,000 and hopefully we will at least be able to double or maybe even triple that amount before we finally exit in the coming days.
Things are like walking a tight rope at the moment, but so far, the lid has been kept on things and with as many people walking around with weapons and emotions as high as they are, that is quite remarkable and hopefully bodes well for the coming days.
I wish the best to all who are working hard to make the best of this situation for all freedom loving people. Every day they are able to continue that work thousands of people will be given a new chance at life not under the rule of the Taliban.
We have a lot of things to do, as we work to get things going in a better direction again. It is not going to always go the way we want or hoped, but we must continue to push and do our bit to support a better place for us all.
Peace and love to all who are working to that goal, especially those are doing that work while at great risk at the moment. It is people like these who continue to give me great hope for us as people.
This picture was from when I finally got home after my last outing. It’s a T-shirt I got for my wine loving sweetie, while out that day. Because these are days when sometimes we can all use a little wine.
Be well, take care and please do a little bit each day to make this a better place. Thank you. Becky.
