Bevrijdingsdag (Libereration Day) is celebrated on 5 may, marking the anniversary of the signing of the German capitulation in 1945, and the end of the Occupation. The celebrations are preceded by the arrival of the Liberation flame , and the raising of the flags of the allied countries involved in the liberation of the Netherlands.
