French Joe Canyon Tilted Strata
The mood was right while we traveled to our final destination for a date with Guy The Forest Ranger at Kartchner Caverns. Diffused light beams ripping through the clouds, spraying nearby mountains with incredible clarity. Every passing formation you want to stop for a photo, but we're on a schedule...that can wait. We can't let an opportunity leave us. Who knows when we'll be back!
What's that? Pull a U-E! There! There! As we tear into the entrance of French Joe Canyon, I leap out of the car mid-flight, tumble roll and start sprinting. "Babe, the clouds are coming--I'LL BE RIGHT BACK!"
French Joe Canyon - The Whetstone Mountains. After some heavy research--sitting on the recliner and flipping through my phone like a little kid--I learned very little about this mountain. At first I thought it was Apache Peak, too tiny. Then found the nickname Tucson natives call it, but would you believe I didn't write it down and lost the link that couldn't be revived? Yeah, I did that. However, I did learn what a sedimentary rock strata (or geological strata) is. And with that new information, I'm going to name this mountain French Joe Tilted Strata Mountain.
Great trip seeing an immense sedge of Cranes at a beautiful staging ground, staying in the spooky town of Bisbee that I'm still trying to forget, and witnessing the wonders of southern Arizona where the wintering Sonoran Desert is in full effect begging my return.
