800103 5Q24 York 5-4-19

This was an ECS working York to Doncaster purely for driver familiarisation on the new traction Type.

I had driven the train, under instruction York-Peterborough-York-Doncaster.

I qualified on the train type the following day on 800113.

To date, I am qualified on fourteen traction types. 08's, 31's, 37's, 43(HST)47's,56's.60's, 66's,67's,86's, 90's 91's, 325 emu's and 800/801 Azuma.

For my generation of senior drivers, these trains are radically different from the locomotives we started our careers on 30-40 years ago.

Other classes I have driven ( not qualified on but under instruction) include 03/11/20/25/26/27/40/45/55/57/58/ 101 and 122 DMU( 55012 ) also 142003( when brand new) also a 156 DMU.

Of all types, the Brush Type Four ( Class 47's), remain my favourite locomotives to work on. Although to date I haven't worked on one since 22nd September 2003 (47760)

800101-113 are the 9 coach Bi Mode ( either electric or diesel powered). These can therefore work all the routes that LNER operate over.

Most of the new LNER Azuma fleet are electric only powered, therefore are limited only travelling where OHL are present.

When qualifying on class 800's a driver is automatically qualified on class 801's too. Very little differences exist between the two.

Thanks to Driver Trainer John for taking this image.
