Shell Hoist
The heavy shells hung from rails and were brought here to the hoist, to be lifted to the gun level. The hoist is being restored.
At Battery Pensacola. This is a reinforced concrete coastal defense battery completed in 1899 to guard the entrance to Pensacola Bay. The two 12-inch (305 mm) guns in disappearing mounts originally installed were removed in 1934. It's located inside old Fort Pickens. Closed in 1947 together with the fort itself, it's now a historical relic. Near Pensacola, Florida.
