Leopard on the loose
The past Saturday saw 8534 recreate the now withdrawn route 517. Once a gem of the Hebble network, in years gone by it ran from Leeds, through Halifax and onto Burnley via BlackShaw Head. Hebble however, avoided running through Heptonstall village.
Little changed for many years however, Metro PTE and Yorkshire Rider made many a revision. The route was renumbered from 15 through to 517 and the service frequency reduced. Journeys now also ran through Heptonstall and curtailed at Halifax.
The 517 was a popular allocation for Halifax's 85** batch of glorious Leopards.
8534 became a regular if on loan from Todmorden. Numerous tales from drivers both past & present recall the Leopard's catching the Volvo B10's, especially on long climbs such as up to Blackstone Edge on the 527/8 services.
This shot is one I've being wanting to recreate for a while and so the opportunity could not be missed. Very little has changed since RWU 534R last came through.
