Goðafoss
Goðafoss waterfall in Skjálfandafljót is about 12m high and 30m wide. The icy meltwater runs a 178 km course from Vatnajökull glacier to Skjálfandi bay on the north coast of Iceland.
According to legend the Lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland in the year 1000. After his conversion Þorgeir threw the statues of the heathen gods into the waterfall.
