Lakagígar crater row (explore Feb 7, 2016)

The northeastern part of the Lakagígar crater row viewed from the top of Mt. Laki. The ice cap of Vatnajökull glacier rises from the horizon.

Lakagígar is a 27 km long volcanic fissure in a northeast/southwest direction with approximately 130 craters in Vatnajökull National Park in the southeast of Iceland. The eruption was one of the biggest lava eruptions on earth in recorded history and lasted for about 8 months, from 8th of June 1783 to February 1784.

Please view larger to see how the crater row extends all the way to Vatnajökull glacier.
