Magnificent Monarch
The Red Deer stags are known as the Monarchs of the Glen after the painting by Edwin Landseer. This one let me get really close, probably about 10 feet (3 meters) or so, and was certainly one magnificent beauty. The Scottish Highlands rise steeply in the background providing a dramatic backdrop to the encounter.
Our house in Scotland being sold, one week before we move away back to Dinnington, where I grew up and where my family still is including the grandkids, we decided to take one last circuit around Loch Muick, the first place we explored when we moved up 15 years ago. It's still as stunning as ever and I will certainly miss this kind of scenery.
