Eternal Flame
After lunch we move on to Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria. Here a building commemorating the eternal flame and the struggle the region is facing in trying to gain its independence. Next to it, and old soviet vehicle stands with its doors open on such a hot day.
The Dnister River marks the border between Moldova and the breakaway state of Transnistria. However, Transnistria means "other side of the Dnister [river]", but since to the residents they're on 'this' side they call the region Pridnistrovie, meaning "Before the Dnister [river]". This part of Moldova want independence and separation from Moldova, to keep their Russian identity, but they don't want to part of Russia or have any links to The Kremlin. There has border control to enter the region but everything is so friendly, despite us being so close to the Ukrainian border.
