Field of gold

This is the White field Nature reserve in the Brue Valley. It is a traditional hay meadow with a wonderful view of Glastonbury Tor It was bought by the ecologist Patrick Whitefield where he lived in a tipi for 25 years before transferring it to the Somerset Wildlife Trust.

Patrick Whitefield who died in February ( he changed his surname to the field) was a leading advocate of permaculture, he passionately believed in Nature as teacher. During his lifetime he wrote several books including the " Earth Care Manual: A Permaculture handbook for Britain.". and "Understanding the Ecology of Landscapes ",

. He was also a founding member of the Ecology Party which later became the Green Party I am sure he would be delighted that in the recent election Glastonbury voted in 7 Green Councillors and is for the first time a Green Town council.

This meadow is overflowing with golden flowers with a rich green tapestry of flowers to come, what a beautiful legacy to leave behind. He was indeed a man of innovation and vision, an inspiration to believe in your dreams for they might just contain a field of gold.

P>S I had to upload a smaller image as Flickr had a problem with uploading larger files.
