Twelfth Night Mid Winter Magic

The bokeh of the sunlight through the frozen grasses seemed a good image to post for twelfth night, the feast of the Epiphany. Celebrated 12 nights after Christmas day when the Magi , who followed a blazing star to offer gold, frankincense and myrrh to the baby Jesus in a stable as a new born king.

It also marks the end of the Midwinter Festival of Fools a time of feasting and Misrule,in which the tricksters ruled. In medieval times for 12 days a year asses became bishops.

The festivities finished on the twelfth night, the magic was done and asses became donkeys again, as order was restored with life returning to normal, which is why we still consider it bad luck to leave the Christmas decorations up after the 6th of January
