The new and final babies.....
These are Tinkie's twins.......born on March 10.....at night. They stayed with her that night to get the nice colostrum from nursing their Mama so they would get off to a good start.
The next day they were popped in this tiny pet carrier and brought home. The first ( and only other ) time Tinkie gave birth, her one twin bit the end of her teat and hurt it. This time she needed to be milked and make sure she was OK.
The little boy is in the front......all black with a tiny bit of white on his forehead and one tiny bit of white on one back foot. He has a coat like I've never seen before......real thick and very wavy. He is beautiful.
His sister is behind him.....with the white patch on her face. She is marked very pretty......with an all white mid body with black dots and black legs and feet.
The little boy is the much stronger of the two and gosh can they run faster than me.......and hop and leap......it is amazing. A day old and leaping in mid air and racing....unbelievable.
I just wish that Valentine's twins, Jean and Vic, had not been born when it was below zero, freezing and schools closed due to the harsh winter conditions. Water in the barn freezing almost the minute the animals got it......the poor little goats were thought to be doing OK with Valentine. She must have been dehydrated and they were not getting enough to eat. They nursed from her for so long and were used to a goat Mother nursing.....with not getting nutrution. Poor Jeannie died in my arms at the barn....and Vic never would take a bottle and droppers did not work. He just seemed to give up and not be strong.....
I have come to the conclusion that taking a baby from the Mother during the first day or two is "great" if you are going to bottle feed.......they catch on fairly fast. If you wait any longer than say "three days".......it is VERY VERY HARD, if not impossible. Maybe I am wrong.....maybe we just had bad winter conditions and the goats were weak to begin with......but little Mimi was not strong in the beginning and it seemed as though little Jeannie and Vic were not either.
I don't know why but these two seem to remind me of Valentine's kids.........the ones who did not make it through the winter. The little boy is beautiful like Jeannie was....and the little girl is thin and reminds me a little of how Vic looked.
Yes, they now think I am their Mother. They have had several baths....as they pee pee a lot and sometimes lay in it during the night. I do not like to have any animal who may feel or smell uncomfortable......so they get a bath.
Molly and Mimi chase these two.....wanting to lick the milk from their mouth. Little Mimi tries to lick the twins dry after they get their bath. She gets a bit rough and tries to nip at them....so she has to be shut in the bathroom while I get them dry and put back in their clean pen.
It's a zoo.....but we are surviving.
