Central Temple (Temple 100), Great Enclosure, Musawwarat es-Sufra, Sudan, North-east Africa
There is a niche in the back wall of the single-chamber temple which was obviously once a shrine. The buildings are constructed from the soft, locally-available sandstone which is white inside. After sufficiently long exposure to the air, the outer surface becomes hard and develops a light to dark brown patina, because of its iron oxide content.
