Lion of Basa, National Museum of Sudan, Khartoum, Sudan, North-east Africa

Six dark statues of lions in ferruginous sandstone line the path to the museum. They were found in Basa, south-east of Meroe. They represent the lion-god Apademak - the main deity of the local pantheon.
