A binnacle
A binnacle is a waist-high case or stand on the deck of a ship, generally mounted in front of the helmsman, in which navigational instruments are placed for easy and quick reference as well as to protect the delicate instruments.
This one is owned by a resident on our campus who’s a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He bought it at an antique store some years ago. It’s from an 18th Century tall ship.
I shot this in his living room, and created and added the background in processing.
