Four-spotted Ghost Moth
Lightening struck twice as I found this moth in my neighbourhood on the opening day of International Moth Week, a year after I had photographed one 30 km away at Fort Whyte Alive. There are some minor top side differences in markings and, I believe, in abdomin markings but I note variation in these moths in other sources.
I have some prettier photos of this moth to be posted but this one, with a gritty background, gives a good look at its head and eyes.
This moth, which was over 2 inched in length, is classed as "uncommon" by Peterson's Field Guide to Moths and southern Manitoba is at the edge of its range.
