Memories of Our Future

‘Curator’ comes from the Latin cura, which means to care. Curators not only take care of collections, but are tasked with telling meaningful stories with care. Memories Of Our Future examines the role curators can perform in bringing attention to marginalized groups. The exhibition is curated by African American artist Ren Dillard of Atlanta, GA. Dillard has used objects from North Dakota State University's permanent collections as a way to challenge traditional narratives often reinforced by museums and institutions. Through texts, recordings, everyday objects and artwork often sequestered to the storage of a vault, Dillard has taken care to reveal a story that draws attention to the complex histories of Blacks and Native Americans, in deference to familiar historical narratives.
