Cicada in Nelson, South Island, New Zealand

 

Chorus Cicada, Amphipsalta zelandica (Boisduval)

These are smaller than our Greengrocer Cicadas that we have here in Australia and they have a higher pitched call as well as making a clicking sound with their wings by hitting them on the branch or other hard surface.

They seemed wide spread across both islands of NZ.
