Mary Alice Bowles
My Little Song Sparrow
My Little Song Sparrow
Among my favorite birds of the year
Marches the little song sparrow
Singing her song of cheer
Almighty singer
Song so sweet
Oh how her song gives me such a treat
Every day I see her there
Twittering through the shade
Searching for a little snack
From the crumbs the other sparrows make
I fell in love with her and the way she hides
But today it was different
She didn’t hide at all
Stretching her neck up and down until she looked tall
A few bites of food in her bill
Searching everywhere
Over one rose bush and up the ivy wall
She doesn’t care if I’m here, she doesn’t care at all
Sitting on the fence post
Posing on the porch
I feel like she is hunting for something
Maybe more lunch?
She flew by my garden rocker
Just fluttering those wings
I wish she would drop that piece of food
So I could hear her sing
Then all of a sudden from the dogwood tree came a little flutter
A little tiny song sparrow, with wings in the know
Came and sat in front of me,
what a beautiful show
That mommy flew right up to him
Face to face, beak to beak,
she fed him his lunch
and me, I got to watch him eat
Now I feel like I’m in tune with God
I felt the sprinkles of his love
I know that I have been touched
With something special from above
