Painter's Workshop. 19th century.

The work of the painter consisted of hanging wallpaper as well as painting and decoration tasks. The painter mixed his own paint. He poured colour powder and linseed oil out on to the granite slab on the worktable on the right. Then he ground the ingredients into a uniform subsance with he muller, the smooth, half-round marble stone. Before 1900, the painter often made his own varnish from boiled flax-seed oil with siccatve aded to it. The brushes were made of animal hair.
