Yashica ML 50mm F1.4 photo (11)

This Yashica is not a cheap vintage lens. Usually not when it comes to an F1.4. I could get it cheap because the diaphragm blades were stuck with oil. That is never a problem for me. The diaphragm blades are usually accessible via the front of the lens. That is the safest way because you avoid mechanisms with springs and rings that you do not know exactly what is happening with. I did need a Youtuber to show me how to remove the front lens.

With a few drops of white spirit, the diaphragm blades usually pop off immediately. You can then remove oil with a cotton swab. Also on the other side of the blades by bending the cotton swab into a hook shape. At aperture F5.6 you can hook around to reach the blades with the cotton swab with white spirit on the other side. Repeat this a few times and spray the diaphragm blades dry with blown air.

This lens delivers quality and a beautiful bokeh. At least for the close focus photos I take. I was able to get close to 30 centimeters with a 3D printed adapter and a helicoid adapter. Like all fast lenses you still have a lot of bokeh space left if 1.4 is too extreme for the subject, which wipes out a complete background and there is little to experience.
