Red-Tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicenis)
Hear a racket outside my window this morning... sounds of an agitated flock of birds. I looked out to see this magnificent specimen sitting on a branch of a dead tree in the valley below my house.
Grabbed the camera and raced outside to capture the scence. Using a little shrub as a blind, I managed to grab a few shots, before the hawk got tired of the harrasment from the smaller birds and flew off to try his luck elsewhere.
I have proudly included the scientific name as the species, although prevalent throughout North America as well, was first described right here on our island and its name is testament to that fact.
