Sean Devereux Memorial Window
The SEAN DEVEREUX MEMORIAL WINDOW - Installed 6 January 2013
This window is in memory of Sean Devereux, a former member of this parish, who was murdered in Somalia while working for the United Nations Children's Fund on 2 January 1993
The central logo of the Sean Devereux Children's Fund is flanked by the map of Africa. The two countries where he worked are marked in a darker red, Liberia on the west coast and Somalia on the east. The drums are from the region and the football and boots represent his interest in sport which he used to communicate to the young people
The banner permeating the panel bears a quote from him, remembering his Father:
"While my hear beats I have to do what I think I can do….. and that is to help those who are less fortunate…."
It is all under the auspices of a dove of peace, which also doubles as the sign of the Holy Spirit, with the cloud of God the Father and the Cross of God the Son - his work was inspired by his faith and commitment to Christian values.
The border of blue and gold is in the colours of the Salesian College at Farnborough where he was educated and in whose community in Liberia he worked for three years
