Secondary growth is when an ecosystem is reduced by some force, either human or natural. The soil in secondary succession remains so there is already a basis for a new ecosystem. In this picture, you can see a stonewall woven throughout the forest. Hundreds of years ago, people knocked down the forests for farming land. Now, the forest has grown back.
